Who We Are

On February 6, 1898, a group of six theatre owners in Seattle Washington joined together to create the Fraternal Order Of The Eagles.  Each original member was associated with performing arts.  The Eagles was made as a private club with specific membership.  Since that time, the organization has laid claim to creating the Mother's Day holiday as well as the impetus for social security and played an important role in ending job discrimination based on age.  Women and children were permitted into the club with the presence of a man member, however, if a member came into the building, the women and children were forced to vacate their seat tat the bar to allow the man a seat.  Later on, children were not even permitted to sit at the bar but had to seat at a table in the back.  Although the Eagles was originally made as a club for men, in March of 1951, the women pulled together to form the "Women's Auxiliary of The Fraternal Order Of The Eagles" in Pittsburg, Kansas.  Many Aeries have either formed an auxiliary or moved to include women entirely in their club's membership.

The Aeries are divided up into districts based on the state they are located in for each country.  The head of the organization is located in Grove City, Ohio.

Membership to the fraternity is still based on moral upstanding, the belief in faith, and is approved through a vote of the members of the club.  All voted in new members must be initiated by a group of the club members.  An application is required, as well as current club members sponsoring their request for membership.  The Fraternal Order of the Eagles offers a benefit member status, social member status, and an auxiliary member status.  The benefit member status costs more and offers payments for injuries leaving a member off of work, death benefits, and other unbearable circumstances.  With the benefit status, members are permitted access to the club, ability to participate in events, and enter drawings and gamble.  The social member status allows a member access to the club and the ability to participate in all events, elections, gambling, and drawings.  Social members pay a lesser amount of yearly dues.  The auxiliary is reserved for women members only and pays a lesser amount of dues annually.  An area of the club building is set aside for the women and they no longer are permitted to sit at the bar, or if they are- no longer have to move to accommodate a male club member.  They are also able to come into the club at will and participate in anything the club offers.

Current members are able to transfer their membership from Aerie to Aerie at no additional cost and most clubs recognize membership from other clubs for entrance.  Membership cards must be on hand when entering any Eagles Aerie.  Visitors are allowed in the private club provided they are accompanied by a current member of an Eagles Aerie and are permitted to remain in the building for the duration of the current member whom signed them in.  Visitors are not permitted to gamble, enter drawings, or purchase their own products.  The spouse of a current member is also allowed in the club without being signed into the visitor register, accompanied by their spouse, and is required to exit the building with their spouse.  Spouses are also not permitted to engage in any benefits of the club as a club member. All members are permitted three visits before becoming a member.  Children are still not allowed in many Aeries.

Discounts through businesses affiliated with the Fraternal Order of the Eagles are offered to members such as an insurance discount, retail discounts at participating stores, and a life insurance policy among other incentives.  Drawings and chances are offered from district to district for members whom sponsor new and approved members.  Check with each individual club for their benefits, drawings, and chances offered.

All aeries are non profit and focus on donating to charities as well as their own local communities.  The original focus of the Fraternal Order of The Eagles was politics, religion, art, and athletics.  The slogan of the Eagles is "People Helping People". Now the Fraternal Order Of The Eagles is an international organization having more than 1,300 Aeries and Auxiliaries throughout the USA and Canada with over 801,,220 members total who still uphold the organizations' original purposes.

Along with promoting membership, contributing to members, and providing members and their family with specific events and programs, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles offers assistance, events, and programs to the communities around them.  The organization believes in giving back to their community and their country.

Every Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aeries is a non-profit organization and relies on the volunteers and donations of their members, community residents, and the fraternity.  Offices are held to run each club and manage the business end.  Most office positions are volunteer and must be held by members of the club.  Each Eagles member has value and helps provide the opportunity for changes throughout the fraternity. The organization strives to become better and stronger as a whole. Every member has the opportunity to help the fraternity achieve this objective by letting their voices be heard through their suggestions and opinions. All members are encouraged to help in making changes for the good.
